The WIC Program feels it is important to get kids involved in the kitchen. They are exposed to nutrition
by preparing food, developing independence and an appreciation for physical activity. They also have the chance
to be creative! We have lots of fun in our "Healthy Kids Club" events! See pictures below.

There was a small turnout but those who came really enjoyed the Gift Project
and all the measuring of ingredients. Hopefully they went away with the satisfaction that not all gifts need to be purchased.
The best gifts come from LOVE and a few simple ingredients and a Jar (one saved from something you have at home or one you
may have purchased) or even a zipper bag to store the ingredients in to gift to a loved one. Kids can appreciate foods
more when they help create something. Measuring is the best way to get kids to help in the Kitchen. Making a game
out of the event and using it as an opportunity to maybe turn experience into a exercise activity by having the child touch
his toes for every carrot they wash or do a treasure hunt to help find the ingredients by starting in another room and working
your way to the kitchen can make nutrition fun and keep kids interested and busy not just sitting in front of a TV daily.
Start Young for a lifelong enjoyment of movement and love of Good Foods.
Our Healthy Kids Club has taken on a new approach in making this Nutrition Education
opportunity a fun and exciting experience. We hope that our WIC clients attend, but anyone wanting
to know about foods and how to get kids interested in different foods are always welcome as well. This is open to any
kids ages 1-5 since we focus on Early Childhood nutrition. Please RSVP to the Henry County Health Center ph 660-885-8195
if you plan to attend the event. Deadline to respond is 3 days before the upcoming event. Our next event is March 7, 2012 A
Rainbow of Nutriton focusing on A Rainbow of Vegetables and how to get kids to eat more of them. Remember it is good to get the kids involved early (and adults) in
the kitchen together for a better understanding of good for you foods!!
